OCM Transfer Market · Seasons 73–77
Every club-to-club transfer in the game across seasons 73–77: 1,412 deals worth 346.8M, who paid, who profited, and why almost nobody buys a rider for what the rider is worth.
The ruler does not move
Every transfer carries two numbers: the rider's value, which the game calculates, and the fee, which two managers agree. The first is anchored. The lowest rider value attached to any transfer has been exactly 29,000 in all 44 seasons from S35 to S78 — a single value, never once different.
So rider value is a fixed ruler, and the multiple paid over it is a clean read on demand. Held against that ruler, prices have climbed: 2.25× in S68 to 2.95× in S77. Nothing about the riders changed. What changed is how much money chases them.
The big money
The record stands at 2,150,000. Note the right-hand column: these are not riders bought slightly above their book value, they are riders bought at five to nine times it.

Market shape
Most business is ordinary. The 100-200k band alone accounts for 33.9% of all transfers. But the money concentrates: the 1M plus band is only 2.1% of deals and takes 10.4% of every unit spent.
The multiple rises with the fee as well. Cheap riders go for close to their value; expensive ones go for multiples of it. Clubs do not pay more for a better rider so much as pay disproportionately more.
When clubs trade
Volume is heaviest around the turn of the season — 205 deals in days 71–80. The multiple paid, though, peaks separately, at 3.34× across days 61–70, which is where riders bought earlier in the season come off their 60-day transfer lock and can be sold on.
Where the premium sits
Split the market at a rider value of 40,000 — the conventional line between a young unproven rider and an established one. In S77 the unproven group changed hands at 4.91× their value; the established group at 2.08×.
That gap is the engine of the whole market. A finished rider is worth roughly what the game says. Potential is what carries a premium, and it has carried one in every season of the window.
Which way the money runs
Sorting every transfer by the division each club was actually racing in that season, the split is clean and it falls between the third and fourth tiers: divisions 1, 2, 3 are net buyers, divisions 4, 5, 6, 7 are net sellers. There is no division on the wrong side of the line. Division 1 alone paid out −35.8M more than it took in.
This is worth stating plainly because it cuts against how the market is often described. Lower-division clubs are not merely losing their best riders — they are being paid to develop them, and that money is a substantial part of how they operate.
The bars do not sum to zero, and the gap is informative. Division here means races actually started, so 1,370 of 1,412 buyers and 1,323 of the sellers can be placed in one; the rest are clubs that traded without ever taking a start line. Those unplaced clubs took +9.62M net — they sell, and they do not race.
Leaderboards
Two different questions get confused in transfer talk, so both are answered here separately. Premium over value covers every one of the 1,412 deals and measures what a club sold for against what the game said the rider was worth. Realised profit compares a club's actual purchase price with its later sale price, and can only be computed where both ends are recorded — 455 of 1,412 sales (32%). Riders signed off the hire list have no recorded purchase price, so they are absent from the second table by necessity, not by choice.

fee / rider value at the moment of transfer. A multiple of 3× means the fee was three times the rider's value, not four.
